Minister: UN secretary-general promises grain deal implementation

DENPASAR, Indonesia, Nov 15 (PRIME) -- U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres vowed that implementation of the grain deal was a priority for him, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters on Tuesday.

“All the promises (on exports of grain and fertilizers from Russia) have been made. I hope that they will be implemented. At least the Secretary-General vowed today that it was a priority issue for him,” he said, adding that no results had been achieved yet.

The U.S. and the E.U. have provided written promises to the U.N. regarding exports of Russia’s grain and fertilizers, but it is unclear what will come from that, he added.

He also said that Russia had suggested establishing free dialogue between the energy consumers and suppliers during the G-20 summit.

“We stood in favor of rejecting politicization of these issues. We have to reject utilization of energy as a way to make political scores even like we saw from the E.U. in regards to the Nord Stream pipelines,” Lavrov said.

The G-20 should work on eliminating any discriminatory obstacles on the global energy market, and a free and fair dialogue between the suppliers and consumers of energy should be established, he added.
